Ric Bonnell
​
​Dr. Ric Bonnell is a pediatrician and pediatric emergency physician whose life and career reflect a deep commitment to service, family, and community. He is the co-founder of the Kay Mackenson Clinic. His passion for this work grew from a personal experience when his adopted son, Mackenson, developed diabetes during the process of joining the Bonnell family, revealing the profound lack of care for children with diabetes in Haiti. In addition to his medical work, Dr. Bonnell is a father of eight children, a farmer, and a high school teacher, bringing the same spirit of dedication and mentorship to his family, students, and community that he brings to his global health efforts.

Chris Carpenter
​​
Dr. Chris Carpenter is a pediatric hospitalist, global child health advocate, and co-founder of the Kay Mackenson Clinic in Haiti, where he works to expand access to care for children living with diabetes and other chronic illnesses. He serves as a pediatric hospitalist at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, where he is deeply involved in clinical care, medical education, and mentorship of medical students and residents. Dr. Carpenter previously served as Pediatric Department Chair and Chief of Staff at Natividad Medical Center and as Director of the Master’s Program in Global Health at UCSF, helping train future leaders in global health and medicine. He currently serves as President of the Medical Staff at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. His commitment to global child health grew from his work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, East Timor, Liberia, and Haiti, where he has focused on improving care for vulnerable children in resource-limited settings.

Julia von Oettingen
Dr. Julia von Oettingen is a pediatric endocrinologist and global health advocate dedicated to improving care for children living with diabetes worldwide. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at McGill University and a pediatric endocrinologist at the Montreal Children’s Hospital in Montreal, where she cares for children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders and teaches medical students, residents, and fellows. Dr. von Oettingen is internationally recognized for her work to expand access to diabetes care in low-resource settings and has collaborated extensively with programs supporting children with diabetes worldwide. Through her clinical work, research, and global partnerships, she is committed to ensuring that children everywhere have access to the care, education, and treatment needed to live healthy, active lives.

Michele Sainvil
​
Dr. Michele Sainvil is a physician trained in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics and is currently a Hematology and Oncology fellow at Duke University. Born in Haiti, she moved to the United States at age eight but has maintained a deep connection to her home country and a strong commitment to improving health equity for underserved communities. Dr. Sainvil completed her undergraduate education at Smith College and earned her medical degree from University of Massachusetts Medical School. Prior to medical school, she spent four years working as a research assistant at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Motivated by witnessing the stark differences in healthcare access between Haiti and the United States, she has dedicated her career to advancing high-quality care in resource-limited settings. Dr. Sainvil has been part of the Kay Mackenson Clinic since its earliest days, initially serving as webmaster and a member of the communications team, and she became a board member in 2014 while still an undergraduate. She was drawn to the clinic’s vision of a free pediatric clinic in Haiti led predominantly by Haitian professionals, believing that this locally driven model is essential to building sustainable healthcare systems in the country.
